Microsoft admits Windows 11 right-click menu confusion will support custom functions

In the future, it will allow users to customize the menu content according to their personal needs, including adding or removing specific options.

According to GearbestTechnology, Marcus Ash, director of design and research for Microsoft's Windows and Devices Department, said on social platforms that the company is working to improve the loading speed of the right-click menu, make its default state more concise, and support users to configure the most commonly used functions. At present, Microsoft has not announced a specific implementation timetable, but said that it will share more details about this improvement in the future.

When Windows 11 was released, the right-click menu was redesigned, the Fluent Design language was used to improve the modern appearance, and the complex options that had been accumulated for a long time in the Windows 10 period were organized. However, this change does not completely solve the problem of menu bloat. Since the system automatically fills in a large number of application extensions, menus often occupy too much screen space, and some commonly used operations are hidden in secondary menus, resulting in reduced operating efficiency.

During the Windows 10 era, Microsoft pointed out that the long-term lack of unified management of right-click menus resulted in serious functional stacking. Although Windows 11 attempts to improve this situation by grouping optimization and folding old menus, in actual use, users generally report that there is still room for improvement in its response speed and layout logic.

This adjustment to the right-click menu is regarded as part of Microsoft’s recent strategy to optimize the basic experience of Windows 11. Previously, Microsoft has gradually introduced functions such as taskbar position adjustment, start menu modular customization, and streamlined recommended content in system updates. By giving users higher customization permissions, Microsoft hopes to solve the redundant problems accumulated in the operating system during long-term iterations, thereby improving user efficiency.
