Nvidia GTX 1650 video memory modified to 8GB: performance nearly doubled

[ Gearbest Technology News]Recently, a hardware modifier doubled the video memory of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card from 4GB GDDR6 to 8GB by simply replacing the video memory chip, and achieved nearly doubled performance in benchmark tests.

This modification only applies to GTX 1650 graphics cards based on the TU106 core. The TU106 core was originally used in the RTX 20 series mid-range graphics cards, using 1GB GDDR6 memory chips. Modifier Paulo Gomes directly replaced the GTX 1650's original four 1GB Samsung GDDR6 memory chips with four 2GB Samsung HC16 GDDR6 chips without modifying the firmware. However, during the operation, he needed to replace two faulty memory chips first.

After the transformation was completed, Paulo Gomes used the Unigine Superposition benchmark to verify it. Under the 4GB video memory configuration, the graphics card scored 624 points; after upgrading to 8GB video memory, the score jumped to 1245 points, an increase of nearly 100%.

It should be noted that this test only included running scores and did not conduct actual game testing. The material pointed out that simply increasing the video memory capacity will usually not bring about a doubling of performance in games, but for modern games with increasing video memory requirements, 8GB of video memory is still expected to bring significant improvements. There are multiple core versions of GTX 1650. Only the TU106 core version supports 1GB GDDR6 video memory chips. Other versions based on the TU117 or TU116 core cannot perform such upgrades.
