The global foundry market grew by 30% in the first quarter, with SMIC entering the top three

The growth of this market is mainly due to the surge in orders for AI graphics processors (GPUs) and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), as well as the demand for advanced packaging.

GearbestTechnology noted that TSMC continues to top the list with a market share of 73%, a slight increase from 72% in the previous quarter. Its market share started from 69% in the fourth quarter of 2024, rose to 71% in the second quarter of 2025, and reached 72% in the third and fourth quarters, showing a steady growth trend. Factors driving its performance growth include: accelerated mass production of the N3 (3 nanometer) process, strong utilization of N4/N5 (4/5 nanometer) process capacity for AI GPUs, tight supply of mature process nodes, and expansion of CoWoS advanced packaging capacity.

TSMC

Samsung's wafer foundry business market share is 7%, a slight decline from the previous quarter, but it still maintains its second position. Analysts believe that its yield improvement on advanced process nodes (3nm GAA, 2nm SF2) is gradually advancing. Samsung regards improving the SF2/SF2P process yield as its top priority and is committed to restoring the competitiveness of its advanced processes. However, the high proportion of internal logic chips (Exynos) and the slow expansion of large external customers are the main reasons for its stagnant market share.

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) announced its highest-ever quarterly revenue results, ranking third in terms of revenue. Its capacity utilization rate reached 93.7%. Reports indicate that domestic market demand has provided support for its performance.

Counterpoint Research predicts that throughout 2026, the advanced process capacity utilization rate and total wafer shipments of major wafer foundries will continue to maintain an upward trend.
