Lee Jae-yong inspects Samsung’s production line for the first time in three years to inspect HBM4 supply system

Lee Jae-yong listened to reports on the business site’s operational status, production plans and technology research and development progress, and inspected the HBM packaging production line. Analysts believe that the purpose of this inspection is to examine HBM's production competitiveness and supply response system, while also confirming technology development results and future business expansion strategies.

GearbestTechnology learned that the Cheonan business site is the core production base of Samsung Electronics' HBM and is responsible for the back-end processes and advanced packaging of HBM. As the global artificial intelligence (AI) market grows, HBM demand and sales continue to rise, and the importance of this factory has become increasingly prominent.

Samsung Electronics achieved the world's first mass production and shipment of the sixth-generation HBM (HBM4) in February this year, and supplied the world's first seventh-generation HBM4E 12-layer sample to major customers in May. There is only about three months between HBM4 mass production and HBM4E sample supply. The industry believes that Samsung Electronics is rapidly advancing the development and supply of next-generation products in the AI ​​memory market.

HBM4 has achieved remarkable results. According to industry sources, about four months after mass production of HBM4, cumulative sales exceeded US$1 billion (approximately 1.54 trillion won). As of the end of July, cumulative sales are expected to exceed US$1.2 billion (approximately 1.84 trillion won). Lee Jae-yong’s inspection also reflects his expectations for HBM4’s performance.

According to data from the Korea International Trade Association, HBM's export value in May was US$37.987 billion (approximately 58.44 trillion won), a year-on-year increase of 153%.
