Samsung 6K 32-inch Odyssey G80HS monitor unveiled with up to 165Hz

[ Gearbest Technology News]Samsung recently launched a new Odyssey G80HS gaming monitor, equipped with a 32-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 6K (6144×3456) and a refresh rate of 165Hz. This product is Samsung’s attempt to move to higher pixel density displays after suffering setbacks in the 8K TV market.

G80HS supports running at 165Hz at 6K resolution, and can also be switched to 3K resolution (3072×1728) to achieve a 330Hz refresh rate to meet the needs of competitive gaming. Its pixel density can reach up to 224 PPI. Samsung says the display has a 178-degree viewing angle and a response time of 1ms. Despite targeting the game market, the actual application of 6K resolution in games is still limited, and currently only a few works such as “Cyberpunk 2077” and “Ghost of Tsushima” support it.

In terms of brightness, the G80HS has a typical brightness of 350 nits and a peak brightness of 400 nits. It supports the HDR10+ standard, but does not support Dolby Vision. The product sells for $1,600. For comparison, Samsung also launched the Odyssey G80SH, a 32-inch 4K OLED panel with a typical brightness of 300 nits and an HDR peak brightness of 1,000 nits, priced at US$1,300. Another Odyssey G80HF is a 27-inch 5K IPS monitor priced at $950.

Samsung said there is real demand for 5K or 6K displays in creative fields, such as video editing or 3D modeling that require screens with ultra-high pixel accuracy. But in the gaming field, high resolution still requires more content and hardware support. Sony PS5 had previously promoted support for 8K, but later removed the relevant logo due to lack of game support. It remains to be seen whether Samsung can avoid a similar situation this time when it launches a 6K monitor.
