[ Gearbest Technology News]On September 17, TrendForce released the latest research report stating that although the global notebook market faces uncertainty about tariff policies, overall shipments are still showing a recovery trend. It is estimated that global laptop shipments will increase by approximately 2.2% annually in 2025, with the total volume exceeding 180 million units, mainly due to the continued expansion of production capacity in Southeast Asia and the support of diverse market demand.
Report analysis shows that shipment performance in the second quarter of 2025 was particularly strong, with single-quarter shipments increasing by 9.5% quarter-on-quarter. The main driving force is that laptops made in Southeast Asia still enjoy zero-tariff treatment to enter the US market, prompting international brands to stock up in advance. At the same time, the Chinese market has benefited from the consumption subsidy policy launched by the local government, which has stimulated personal replacement demand; the Japanese market has seen steady growth in education laptop shipments due to the continued promotion of the “GIGA School 2.0” education project.
Entering the third quarter, although the United States has not announced specific details of semiconductor tariffs, notebook products still maintain tariff exemption status. Overlay brand manufacturers, operating system suppliers and CPU manufacturers continue to support channel sales through subsidies. It is expected that shipments will continue to grow in the third quarter, with a month-on-month growth rate of up to 7.5%.
Against the backdrop of global supply chain restructuring, Southeast Asia is becoming a key notebook production base outside of China. Dell and Apple have previously invested heavily in Vietnam, leading major foundries such as Compal, Wistron, LCFC and Huaqin to list Vietnam as a priority production expansion area. Relying on the geographical advantage of being close to China, a stable policy environment and a young labor force, Vietnam's laptop manufacturing cluster has gradually taken shape. TrendForce predicts that Vietnam’s share of global laptop production capacity will rapidly increase to 13.5% in 2025.
