The agency said the global PC shipments market will stabilize in 2024 and fully recover in 2025, entering the commercial market update cycle.

According to Canalys, the PC market saw growth for five consecutive quarters by Q4 2024. Total shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations reached 67.4 million units, a 4.6% increase. Notebooks (including mobile workstations) accounted for 53.7 million units, growing by 6.2%. However, desktop shipments (including desktop workstations) dropped by 1.4% to 13.7 million units.

Canalys predicts accelerated growth in 2025. This is largely due to Microsoft ending support for Windows 10 in October. As a result, millions of users will need to update their devices.

Ishan Dutt, chief analyst at Canalys, noted that CES 2025 highlights the PC market’s focus on AI PCs as a key category. This shift has drawn consumer attention to more diverse models. CPU and PC manufacturers are integrating end-side AI across categories, price ranges, and regions. As a result, AI PCs could make up 35% of global shipments by 2025.

By manufacturer, Lenovo is still the sales leader in the global PC market. Its global shipments in the fourth quarter reached 16.9 million units, a year-on-year increase of 4.9% compared with the strong shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023. HP followed closely behind, ranking second, with global shipments reaching 13.7 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 1.6%. Dell ranked third, but its shipments showed a downward trend in all quarters throughout the year, with a decline of 0.2% in the fourth quarter. Apple ranked fourth, with shipments of 5.9 million units and an annual growth rate of 3.1%. ASUS’s year-on-year growth rate was 21.6%, becoming the fastest growing manufacturer among the top five manufacturers.

Looking at the whole year of 2024, the rankings of the top five companies remain consistent with those in the fourth quarter. Lenovo shipped 61.87 million units throughout the year, accounting for 24.2% of the market. HP, the second-placed company, shipped 52.99 million units, accounting for 24.2% of the market. 20.7%, third place Dell shipped 39.096 million units, fourth place Apple shipped 22.82 million units, and Asus ranked fifth with 18.334 million units.
