The global PC market will reach 255 million units in 2024, marking a 3.8% increase compared to last year. Canalys, a global technology market analysis firm, reported this data. Lenovo maintains its leadership in the market with strong global PC shipments.

PC Market Growth and Recovery in 2024

Canalys released its findings on January 13, 2024, showing that the global PC market has experienced consistent growth. The fourth quarter saw shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations reach 67.4 million units, a 4.6% year-on-year increase. Notebooks, including mobile workstations, grew by 6.2% with 53.7 million units shipped. However, desktop shipments, including workstations, dropped by 1.4% to 13.7 million units.

Canalys forecasts that the market will stabilize in 2024 and fully recover by 2025. This recovery will be fueled by the commercial market’s transition and the planned end of Windows 10 support in October 2025. Many PC users are expected to upgrade their devices as a result.

The Rise of AI PCs and Market Trends

Looking ahead to 2025, Canalys anticipates accelerated growth in the PC market, particularly with the growing demand for AI-powered devices. The upcoming CES 2025 show has already highlighted AI PCs as a key trend, sparking increased consumer interest. With CPU and PC manufacturers rolling out products equipped with end-side AI across various price ranges and categories, AI PCs are projected to account for 35% of global shipments by 2025.

Top PC Manufacturers in 2024: Lenovo Remains Market Leader

Lenovo remains the top manufacturer in the global PC market. In the fourth quarter of 2024, it shipped 16.9 million units, a 4.9% year-on-year increase. HP ranks second, shipping 13.7 million units, although it saw a 1.6% decline. Dell follows in third, with a 0.2% decrease in shipments.

Apple holds the fourth spot with 5.9 million units shipped, marking a 3.1% increase. ASUS achieved the highest growth rate, rising 21.6% compared to the previous year.

Global PC Shipments by Manufacturer in 2024

The overall rankings for 2024 remain unchanged. Lenovo led with 61.87 million units, holding a 24.2% market share. HP followed with 52.99 million units, also capturing 24.2% of the market. Dell shipped 39.1 million units, taking a 20.7% share. Apple shipped 22.82 million units, and ASUS shipped 18.3 million units, rounding out the top five.
