Apple releases system update for older Macs to protect iMessage and FaceTime services

According to Apple’s official statement, this update maintains a secure connection between old devices and Apple servers by updating digital certificates. Affected devices include older Macs that cannot be upgraded to the latest system, and some Apple Watch models. Among them, watchOS 9.6.4 and previous versions will become the last system versions to support iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Due to hardware limitations, these phones can only run up to iOS 16 system. WatchOS 10.6.2 is released to Apple Watch Series 4, Series 5 and original Apple Watch SE users.

In terms of the update method, Mac users can complete the upgrade through “System Preferences-Software Update”, while Apple Watch users need to use the Watch app on the iPhone to install it.
