[ Gearbest Technology News]AMD officially stated at the recently held Communicopia+ technology conference that its next-generation AI acceleration GPU MI450 will become a “no compromise” flagship product, aiming to fully benchmark and challenge Nvidia's leading position in the field of artificial intelligence. Forrest Norrod, head of the company's data center department, emphasized that MI450 will be a generation of AMD products that truly achieves “all-round leadership.”
Norod said that the research and development of MI450 is the ultimate manifestation of AMD's long-term strategic layout. Previously, the MI300 series focused on inference tasks, while the MI355 gradually enhanced training capabilities at the chip design and software levels. All efforts will be concentrated on the MI450, which will be launched in 2026. He said: “MI450 is a 'no reservation' generation for us, and our goal is to achieve industry-leading performance in any type of AI workload – whether training or inference.”
To illustrate the importance of this goal, Norod compared it to the success of the EPYC processor Zen 3 architecture. “The third-generation EPYC CPU is the first time we have truly achieved 'no excuses', becoming the best choice for all x86 workloads. We hope the MI450 can achieve the same status.” He further pointed out that the MI450 will not only compete with NVIDIA's current Blackwell architecture, but will also simultaneously benchmark its next-generation Rubin GPU. “We're going to be launching with Vera Rubin, and our product will be a complete high-performance product.”
Norod also admitted that AMD's current share of the independent graphics card market is only 6%, which is far from reaching the standard of an “important player”. He said: “We expect to become a meaningful share holder in the market. If it fails to reach double digits, such as around 20%, it is not enough to be called a key player. This is our mid-term goal, and we will continue to grow thereafter.”
