Samsung Foundry cooperates with American Claros to mass-produce power semiconductors for AI data centers

[ Gearbest Technology News] GearbestTechnology learned from Korean media that Samsung’s foundry business unit has reached a strategic manufacturing cooperation with Claros, an American power management solution startup. The two parties will mass-produce next-generation power semiconductor products for AI data centers. Claros said on the 16th local time that it has agreed to use Samsung's foundry process technology to establish a large-scale production system for its core product integrated voltage regulator to cope with the power consumption issues commonly faced by ultra-large-scale data centers around the world.

According to reports, the integrated voltage regulator developed by Claros is a high-performance power semiconductor that can accurately control the data center power supply close to the processor. In the traditional 800V DC data center environment, there is a large loss during power transmission. With this technology, power can be adjusted directly a few millimeters away from the processor unit, reducing energy loss by up to 30%.

According to the cooperation plan, Samsung will provide 14nm FinFET advanced process production lines in the United States for the production of Claros' next-generation integrated voltage regulator products. Margaret Han, vice president of Samsung's U.S. foundry business unit, said that processor-level power supply is one of the key challenges facing the current AI infrastructure. The two parties will promote the implementation of the Claros solution through Samsung's FinFET technology, and expects that related technologies will be expanded to industrial and automotive semiconductor fields in the future.

Claros recently completed a seed round of financing of US$30 million, equivalent to approximately RMB 453 million. The company said that the first manufacturing agreement signed with Samsung will help it speed up solving the power infrastructure bottleneck in the AI accelerator market. Daniel Coultrane, co-founder and CEO of Claros, said that one of the core issues that data center operators have previously focused on is whether the product can be supplied on a large scale, and this cooperation will help reduce supply uncertainty and provide customers with a clearer schedule for mass production.
