Samsung releases the world's thinnest notebook OLED panel: thickness reduced by 20%

[ Gearbest Technology News]According to GearbestTechnology, Samsung Display released its first “ultra-thin” OLED notebook panel at Computex 2026. This panel uses advanced glass etching technology to reduce module thickness by more than 20% compared to existing mass-produced products, while maintaining VESA True Black 1000 certification and high refresh rate performance, targeting the high-end gaming notebook market.

To achieve this thickness reduction, Samsung engineers developed a specialized etching process to reduce the thickness of both the thin film transistor substrate glass and packaging glass by more than 30%. Although the physical size has been significantly reduced, Samsung has used its own manufacturing technology to solve the common problem of panel warping and ensure structural integrity in the thinner form.

In terms of visual specifications, the panel supports VESA True Black 1000 certification, with a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and a black level of less than 0.0005 nits, providing a high-contrast immersive gaming experience. The refresh rate supports 165Hz to 240Hz to meet the needs of competitive players. Additionally, its ClearMR 11000 rating indicates excellent motion blur suppression in highly dynamic scenes.

Samsung said the ultra-thin panels provide device manufacturers with unprecedented design flexibility, helping to develop thinner and lighter notebooks without sacrificing high-end cooling or component space. At present, the panel is still in the display stage and has not entered commercial mass production. The specific first batch of models has not yet been announced. Samsung has previously announced the development of the world's first 4K 360Hz QD-OLED panel.
