According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics’ labor and management parties signed a “preliminary agreement on performance bonuses for 2026” on May 20. The core content of this agreement is to add a “semiconductor special performance bonus” to the DS department responsible for the semiconductor business on the basis of maintaining the original year-end performance bonus system.
According to the agreement, Samsung Electronics will use 10.5% of its performance as a source of special bonuses, and there is no upper limit on the total bonus. Among them, 40% of the funds will be allocated directly to the DS department, while the remaining 60% will be allocated proportionally to various sub-departments and administrative departments.
According to the report, if the “performance” in the agreement is calculated in terms of operating profits, if the company's performance meets expectations, DS department employees will have the opportunity to receive relatively large bonuses. The industry estimates that Samsung Electronics’ operating profit is expected to reach 300 trillion won this year. If calculated based on this data, the total scale used to issue special performance bonuses for semiconductors will reach 31.5 trillion won.
According to Korean media estimates, employees in the DS department alone will receive an average of about 160 million won in special bonuses. Among them, the bonus level for employees in the memory chip department may be higher. After adding the original OPI performance bonus, the per capita bonus is expected to be close to 600 million won (approximately RMB 2.72 million). Some administrative department employees are also expected to receive bonuses exceeding 200 million won.
