[ Gearbest Technology News]On April 10, according to the latest PC market statistics released by Omdia, the total global shipments of desktops, notebooks and workstations in the first quarter of 2026 reached 64.84 million units, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%. Among them, notebooks (including mobile workstations) shipped 50.8 million units, a slight increase of 2.6% year-on-year; desktops (including desktop workstations) performed slightly better, with a year-on-year increase of 5.4%, reaching 14 million units.

Ben Yeh, chief analyst at Omdia, pointed out that the moderate growth in shipments in the first quarter was mainly due to manufacturers and channel partners pulling in orders in advance in response to the expected increase in component costs. In addition, the release of enterprise replacement budgets brought about by the end of the Windows 10 life cycle, as well as the concentrated release of new products by Windows OEM and Apple in the spring, have also provided support for shipments.
However, as supply chain pressures continue to intensify, this increase is likely to be the high point for all of 2026. Ye Maosheng warned: “Starting from the second quarter, memory and storage costs are expected to rise faster and more sharply than previously expected, which will compress PC manufacturers' gross profit margins and force manufacturers to pass on part of the costs to channel partners and end customers.”
Omdia data shows that memory and storage costs have risen approximately five times and three times respectively since the first quarter of 2025. The large-scale construction of AI data centers is crowding out the supply of DRAM and NAND for the consumer market, causing PC bill of materials (BOM) costs to rise sharply. Specifically, from Q1 of 2025 to Q2 of 2026, the BOM cost of DRAM and memory with different configurations has increased cumulatively by US$122 to US$237. Taking the 16GB+1TB version as an example, the increase is as high as $237.
In the first quarter of 2026, Lenovo continued to rank first in the global PC market, with shipments reaching 16.529 million units, a year-on-year increase of 8.7%, and its market share exceeded 25%, reaching 25.5%. HP still ranked second, but due to weak performance in the European and American markets, shipments fell 4.9% year-on-year to 12.142 million units, with a market share of 18.7%. Dell continued its strong momentum since the fourth quarter of 2025, with shipments increasing 7.8% year-on-year to 10.291 million units, with a market share of 15.9%. Apple's shipments increased by 5.4% year-on-year to 7.112 million units, with a market share of 11.0%, relying on the solid sales of MacBook Air and the initial distribution of MacBook Neo. ASUS continued to maintain double-digit growth, with shipments increasing to 4.622 million units, a year-on-year increase of 15.1%, and a market share of 7.1%.
