[ Gearbest Technology News]The web version of Apple Maps, first launched by Apple in July, has been upgraded to support the “Look Around” function. This feature is essentially equivalent to Google Street View.
In supported areas, the Look Around feature provides high-resolution ground-level views of restaurants, retail locations, landmarks, streets, and other points of interest. This feature has long been available on iOS devices, but support for the web version of the Apple Maps app allows non-Apple users to experience the feature.
Apple appears to have implemented support earlier this month (around December 11th). The Look Around feature is available in several cities in the United States, as well as in countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Singapore, London, and more.
Back in August, there were signs that Apple was aggressively expanding the feature to more rural areas and new countries such as Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, China, Belarus, Turkey, Bulgaria, Mexico, and Slovakia. But this expansion has yet to materialize.
The web version of Apple Maps works similarly to the Apple Maps app, allowing users to get driving and walking directions, find places to visit, view ratings and opening hours, and browse curated guides. It also has built-in functionality for ordering food via map location cards and discovering places to eat, shop, and explore in cities around the world.
The web version of Apple Maps serves as an alternative to Google Maps and is compatible with Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Mac, iPad and Windows PCs. The online version of Apple Maps continues to be available in beta form.
