[ Gearbest Technology News]On June 28, Canalys announced the latest data. In the first quarter of 2024, U.S. PC (personal computers, excluding tablets) shipments increased by 5% year-on-year to 14.8 million units. The driving force for growth mainly comes from two aspects, one is the consumer market, and the other is small and medium-sized enterprises. Both of them experienced a year-on-year growth of more than 9% in shipments in the first quarter.
Canalys predicts that with a strong start to the year and the continued Windows update cycle, the market is now on a healthy recovery track. In 2024, total U.S. PC shipments will reach 69 million units; in 2025, they will increase by another 8% to 75 million units.
Canalys analyst Greg Davis said that macroeconomic conditions in the United States have remained stable for several months, which is conducive to healthier consumer spending and corporate IT investment. A large portion of the PC installed base is still running Windows 10, so the next four quarters are expected to bring stronger momentum to the update cycle. In addition, new products and user experiences in Windows and the Apple ecosystem will surely excite consumers and businesses.
In terms of manufacturer performance, in the first quarter of 2024, the top five manufacturers in terms of desktop and laptop shipments are HP, Dell, Lenovo, Apple and Acer, while the top five manufacturers in tablet shipments are Apple, Samsung, Amazon, TCL and Microsoft. Among tablet manufacturers, only Samsung achieved positive growth.
