Although the growth rate in 2025 is limited, Apple plans to introduce OLED display technology in the MacBook series, which will push panel manufacturers to start operating high-generation OLED production lines by the end of 2026 and enable the market penetration rate of OLED laptops to exceed 5% in 2027. TrendForce believes that after high-end brands such as Apple adopt OLED technology, other brands may follow suit, thus promoting the widespread application of OLED technology in the IT market.

At present, the application of OLED display technology has expanded from smartphones to tablets, laptops, wearable devices, automotive displays and other fields. In order to improve the life of the product, the OLED architecture will adopt double-layer (Tandem) technology. However, due to the low yield rate in the early stage of mass production and the high overall manufacturing cost, this may affect the launch time of the OLED MacBook.

In terms of investment and production plans of panel manufacturers, Samsung Display (SDC) and BOE have begun building the 8.6th generation production line. It is expected that SDC will launch 8.6th generation OLED products through its own brand in the second half of 2026. Visionox plans to start mass production of high-generation production lines in 2028. JDI, Innolux and its subsidiary CarUX jointly established the eLEAP strategic alliance to promote 32-inch OLED in-car integrated displays. In addition, LG Display’s (LGD) high-generation production line plan is still in the evaluation stage due to financial constraints.
