[Zhaimi Review]Nowadays, there are more and more types of wearable devices, such as smart glasses, helmets, etc. Among them, since the price range of two or three digits can cover a large number of groups, each brand will launch corresponding smart bracelet products.
Among them, Xiaomi's smart bracelet series has been recognized by the market since its launch. As its sub-brand focusing on high cost performance, Redmi finally launched the second-generation product in the bracelet series – Redmi Band 2 after nearly two years.
New upgraded appearance design
In terms of appearance, the Redmi Band 2 has changed the sharp right-angle design of the previous generation and adopted a more rounded design concept. The installation and removal method of the strap is also similar to the Xiaomi bracelet, adopting the mainstream fully split design.
As a smart accessory that can highlight your personality, Redmi stated in its promotion that this bracelet provides more than 100 watch faces to choose from. The slightly “serious” author counted them in the watch face market. As of December 29, a total of 116 watch faces were provided in the Xiaomi Sports Health App, and no watch faces required payment.
With the blessing of personalized dials, there will naturally be a variety of strap colors. This time, Redmi provides 6 different colors of straps, namely Dream White, Midnight Black, Clear Blue, Retro Green, Vitality Pink and Fluorescent Green. The color version we got this time is black.
Compared with the 1.08-inch screen of the previous generation, the Redmi Band 2 is equipped with a 1.47-inch sugar-cube screen, which has a 36% increase in display area, can display more content, and is easier to operate. And due to the support of 2.5D screen glass, the overall texture of the bracelet has been greatly improved. In other aspects, the resolution of the Redmi Band 2 has been increased to 172*320, and the brightness has been increased to 450nit.
The weight of this bracelet is 13g, and the total weight with the strap is 26.4g, which is basically normal for bracelets. And because the thickness of its main body is reduced by nearly half compared with the previous generation, it feels more comfortable to wear. I can hardly feel its weight while wearing it, perhaps because I have been wearing heavier watches, so after changing to a bracelet, I have an illusion that it is as light as a feather.
Sufficient sports and health functions
Generally speaking, users have only two functional requirements for smart bracelets, namely exercise and health. In terms of exercise, the Redmi Band 2 supports 31 exercise modes, including common types of exercise – walking, cycling, yoga and various ball sports, which can basically meet the user's exercise needs.
In terms of health, the Redmi Band 2 supports 24-hour heart rate monitoring, all-day sleep monitoring, stress monitoring and women's health. It is worth mentioning that as everyone pays more and more attention to their own health and physical indicators, this bracelet has a built-in blood oxygen saturation monitoring function. Compared with the common finger-clip blood oximeters on the market that cost two or three hundred yuan, the Redmi Band 2, which is officially priced at 169 yuan, is really a sincere product.
Of the above main functions, the one that impressed me the most during the experience was sleep detection. The monitoring of sleep time is very accurate, and the awake time caused by getting up at night can also be accurately recorded. Although the data on deep sleep, light sleep, and rapid eye movement cannot be verified, from a personal experience, it is obvious that when the mental state is good after waking up, the deep sleep time is longer, and vice versa.
In terms of waterproof capability, the Redmi Band 2 supports 5ATM waterproof, and the official propaganda supports wearing it in swimming pools, shallow beaches or snorkeling. Regarding this point, the author is a little confused, because the bracelet does not have a water sports mode mainly for swimming, which is a bit regrettable. I hope that Redmi can add sports modes such as swimming in the later firmware upgrades.
Consistently excellent battery life
Battery life has always been a strong feature for wristbands. The Redmi Band 2 has a built-in 210mAh battery with a battery life of up to 14 days. Even with heavy use, it can last for 6 days, so there is no need to worry about running out of power suddenly. In terms of charging, the Redmi Band 2 abandons the relatively “backward” charging method of the first generation and upgrades to the current mainstream magnetic charging, so there is no need to remove the strap to charge.
In the process of testing the actual battery life, the author set the brightness of the bracelet to about 50%, and turned on the screen light up when the wrist is raised, all-day heart rate smart detection and all sleep settings, and all other settings are default. In this case, after being fully charged and used for 24 hours, the power of the Redmi Band 2 dropped from 100% to 88%. According to this battery life level, it can be used for more than 8 days. If you use the sports mode several times during this period, it can be used for about five to six days, which is almost the same as the heavy use battery life provided by the official.
Final Thoughts
In general, smart bracelets can currently occupy a certain share in the wearable device market because they are light and flexible to wear, and can provide users with sufficient functions at a low price. The overall performance of the Redmi Band 2 released this time basically meets users' expectations.
Compared with the previous generation, this bracelet has been greatly improved in terms of both appearance design and internal functions. Although the price has also increased, the price of 169 yuan is still very cost-effective. It is currently only sold for 159 yuan during the Xiaomi New Year Festival. Interested friends can consider buying one, whether to wear it yourself or give it to your parents, which is a good choice.
