Nvidia RTX 5090D was “castrated” again, and its video memory was reduced to 24GB but the price remained unchanged

[ Gearbest Technology News]On May 16, a blogger posted a screenshot on Weibo, showing that in order to continue selling RTX 5090D in China, Nvidia is preparing to “castrate” the graphics card again.

From the screenshots released by the blogger, it can be seen that some consumers consulted the official flagship store of Renaissance graphics card of AIC manufacturer and asked about the news about RTX 5090D. Official customer service said that Nvidia is planning to launch a new RTX 5090D graphics card, which will be equipped with 24GB of graphics memory and is expected to be launched around July. However, this new card is not the RTX 5080 SUPER rumored, but a further “castration” version of the current RTX 5090D, mainly aimed at the Chinese market.

The reason behind this move is due to the continued restrictions on the export of high-performance AI chips by the United States. The RTX 5090D currently sold in China is already an optimized version for export restrictions, and has restricted AI computing power. However, with a new round of regulation tightening, Nvidia is rumored to have been forced to suspend sales of RTX 5090D in China. The price of this graphics card on the market once nearly doubled, and it can only be purchased through the pre-installed channel of the entire machine.

To cope with policy changes, Nvidia is developing the new RTX 5090D. According to the leak, this new product will use laser to shield some CUDA cores, or further reduce the power consumption specifications, and the video memory bit width is likely to be castrated to 384-bit. The video memory has also changed from 32GB to 24GB, which may further reduce the performance of the entire card. But what is even more surprising is that Renli customer service said that the price of the new graphics card is still the same as the current 5090D, which makes its cost-effectiveness questioned.

However, Nvidia has not officially confirmed the existence of the product. Given the confusion in naming and potential market misleading, the product may be renamed when it is finally released, rather than continuing to use the RTX 5090D model.

It is worth noting that Nvidia has taken great pains to combine model naming and specifications in the past, such as the chaotic naming history between “Ti” and “SUPER” and the non-public version. Therefore, even if the rumors are true, the product form and specifications may still change before release.
