[ Gearbest Technology News]Recently, Microsoft has begun to force push the new version 25H2 update to unmanaged devices running Windows 11 version 24H2. This move is intended to ensure that users migrate to a supported system before support for older versions ends.

Windows 11
According to Microsoft's updated support document, Windows 11 version 24H2 will end support for ordinary consumers such as Home Edition and Professional Edition in October this year. At that time, related devices will no longer receive security patches, problem fixes, technical support and new feature updates. To prevent users from being stuck on unsupported versions, Microsoft has launched an automatic update push mechanism.

According to Gearbest, this forced update policy currently only applies to “unmanaged devices”, that is, ordinary consumer-grade computers that are not centrally managed by the enterprise IT department. Home and Pro devices still running 24H2 will automatically receive the 25H2 update. Users can choose a suitable restart time or temporarily postpone the installation process.
It is worth mentioning that the upgrade from 24H2 to 25H2 is an update in the form of an “enablement package”, and the two share the same code base. This means that the upgrade process is shorter and theoretically will not bring significant interruptions in use, compatibility issues or new serious bugs.
If users want to actively speed up the upgrade process, they can manually click “Check for Updates” through “Settings > Windows Update”. If the device meets the conditions, the system will prompt you to upgrade to 25H2.
It should be noted that upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is still optional. Even though mainstream support for Windows 10 ended last year, Microsoft did not include such cross-version upgrades in the scope of mandatory push.
Previously, Microsoft had promised to adjust the Windows update mechanism, including allowing users to postpone updates for a longer period of time to improve the update experience. However, Microsoft has not made it clear whether the new extension mechanism will allow users to stay on old versions that have exceeded the support cycle for a long time.
