India’s first quarter tablet shipment rankings announced: Lenovo and Xiaomi enter the top five

Total shipments across the market reached 4.3 million units, a year-on-year increase of 9%. Canalys said this was mainly driven by a 37% surge in tablet shipments, reaching 1.3 million units.

In the first quarter, the growth of desktop PCs in the Indian market was relatively moderate, with a year-on-year increase of 9% to 938,000 units, while notebook shipments fell by 4% to 2 million units. Canalys predicts that Indian PC and tablet shipments will grow by 11% in 2024 and by another 15% in 2025. Canalys analyst Ashweej Aithal expects that the large number of education tender requirements that will be completed this year will bring strong development opportunities to the Indian tablet market.

Judging from the Indian tablet shipment data in the first quarter, the top five manufacturers are Samsung, Acer, Apple, Lenovo and Xiaomi. Among them, Lenovo and Xiaomi, as two domestic manufacturers, squeeze into the top five. In terms of market share, Samsung is far ahead with 34.4%, followed by Acer with 21.5%, Apple and Lenovo with 9.5% and 8.0% respectively. In addition, Xiaomi, ranked fifth, holds 7.4% market share. In terms of growth, Apple’s 22.7% decline was the largest, while Acer and Xiaomi’s growth rates were more exaggerated, with Xiaomi’s annual growth rate reaching 226.5%.
