[Gearbest Technology]With the improvement of people's living standards, high-end mobile phones are becoming more and more popular. This is not only true at home but also in India. India is undergoing premiumisation, especially when it comes to smartphones. According to data from Counterpoint Research, India's high-end smartphone market (mobile phones priced over 30,000 rupees, approximately RMB 2,600) will grow by 64% year-on-year in 2023. Now, Indian technology media mysmartprice has taken stock of the five most noteworthy flagship smartphones in the rest of 2024, but none of them are domestically produced.
Indian media evaluates the 5 most noteworthy flagship mobile phones in 2024
Mysmartprice said that although 2024 has already launched some impressive flagship products – Samsung S24 series, iQOO 12, OnePlus 12 and Xiaomi 14 – the carnival is far from over. The remaining months are filled with more innovative devices, with highly anticipated smartphones such as the iPhone 16 series and Google Pixel 2 Fold set to be released.
iPhone 16 series
As in previous years, Apple plans to launch four new iPhones in 2024, namely the regular iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. It is said that the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will increase in size by about 0.2 inches, while the display size of the non-Pro models is likely to remain the same.
Fortunately, the non-Pro models are expected to support high refresh rates, which everyone has been waiting for. This means the upcoming iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will feature Apple's ProMotion displays.
In addition, Apple is also focusing on artificial intelligence this year. The latest iOS 18, which will debut on the iPhone 16 series, is said to incorporate generative AI features to enhance Siri and Messages apps' ability to handle queries and automatically complete sentences.
In addition, Pro models such as iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are expected to debut with the A18 Pro chipset. The non-Pro model may feature a new chipset, possibly an upgraded version of the A17 chipset. This is different from the A17 Pro that powers the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Google Pixel 9 series
The search giant is expected to launch three Pixel devices this year: the standard Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. Early leaks suggest that Google has ditched the “visor” shaped camera module with the Pixel 9 series. The company appears to be developing a wide pill-shaped camera module. It still has that signature Pixel look, though.
The upcoming Pixel 9 series is likely to be equipped with Google's self-developed Tensor G4 chip, which is reportedly code-named Zuma Pro, and is said to be slightly upgraded to Tensor G3 (code-named Zuma). The device is also expected to support up to 15W Qi2 wireless charging.
Additionally, the Pixel 9 series will run Android 15, which is expected to be announced at the Google I/O event scheduled to begin on May 14.
Google Pixel Fold 2
Google launched its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, in May last year. Now, the tech giant is rumored to be developing its successor. Leaked device images suggest that Google will skip the visor-like camera module in its upcoming foldable. Instead, it will feature a rectangular camera island with rounded edges. The camera island will be placed on the top left of the smartphone and will feature quad cameras and LED flash.
As for the specifications, the Pixel Fold 2 may be equipped with a Tensor G4 chipset codenamed “zumapro”, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space.
The latest news is that Google Pixel Fold 2 will enter the market as Pixel 9 Pro Fold and will be unveiled at Google’s annual hardware conference in October. The decision to change the name is said to have been made recently during internal communications within Google. It is worth mentioning that there are still variables in various information before product release, so this statement is for reference only.
Samsung Z Fold 6
Samsung is about to launch its sixth-generation horizontally foldable device, the Z Fold 6. It has appeared on certification websites such as 3C, showing that the device will support 25W charging.
In addition, official renderings of the Z Fold 6 have also surfaced, giving people a glimpse of the smartphone's design. The upcoming foldable phone is said to have flat edges and a boxy frame similar to the S24 series. OnLeaks also revealed dark gray renders of the smartphone, which may actually be sold in Phantom Black.
The Z Fold 6 foldable smartphone is expected to come with all the latest and greatest specs such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and more. There may also be a Z Fold 6 Ultra model with S Pen support.
Samsung Z Flip 6
Samsung is also preparing to launch the clamshell-style foldable Z Flip 6. It also appears on the 3C certification website and supports 25W charging. Leaks suggest that the upcoming Z Flip 6 will feature a 3.9-inch external display, which, if true, would be a significant upgrade from the Z Flip 5's current 3.4-inch external display. The main display inside will likely remain unchanged at 6.7 inches.
In terms of processor, Samsung is expected to equip the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform. Interestingly, Samsung is said to be offering a 12GB RAM version this time around.
To be clear, while most of the leaked details about these upcoming flagships may come true, it's best to take all the details with a grain of salt and wait for an official announcement.
