Global PC shipments will reach 255 million units in 2024, an increase of 3.8%, Lenovo still ranks first

The agency said that the global PC market will stabilize in 2024 and fully recover in 2025, entering the commercial market update cycle.

According to data released by Canalys, the PC market achieved five consecutive quarters of growth in the fourth quarter, with total shipments of desktop computers, notebooks and workstations reaching 67.4 million units, an increase of 4.6%. Shipments of notebooks (including mobile workstations) were 53.7 million units, an increase of 6.2%, while shipments of desktops (including desktop workstations) fell 1.4% to 13.7 million units. Canalys expects 2025 to be a year of accelerated growth as Microsoft ends system support for Windows 10 in October, forcing hundreds of millions of PC users to update their devices.

Ishan Dutt, chief analyst at Canalys, said that signs at the CES 2025 show indicate that the PC market is working to build AI PCs into a star category, which has triggered consumers to start paying attention to a wider range of models for discussion. As the product roadmaps of CPU and PC manufacturers begin to apply end-side AI in various categories, price ranges and regions, AI PCs are expected to account for 35% of global shipments in 2025.

By manufacturer, Lenovo is still the sales leader in the global PC market. Its global shipments in the fourth quarter reached 16.9 million units, a year-on-year increase of 4.9% compared with the strong shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023. HP followed closely behind, ranking second, with global shipments reaching 13.7 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 1.6%. Dell ranked third, but its shipments showed a downward trend in all quarters throughout the year, with a decline of 0.2% in the fourth quarter. Apple ranked fourth, with shipments of 5.9 million units and an annual growth rate of 3.1%. ASUS’s year-on-year growth rate was 21.6%, becoming the fastest growing manufacturer among the top five manufacturers.

Looking at the whole year of 2024, the rankings of the top five companies remain consistent with those in the fourth quarter. Lenovo shipped 61.87 million units throughout the year, accounting for 24.2% of the market. HP, the second-placed company, shipped 52.99 million units, accounting for 24.2% of the market. 20.7%, third place Dell shipped 39.096 million units, fourth place Apple shipped 22.82 million units, and Asus ranked fifth with 18.334 million units.
