First quarter tablet shipment rankings announced: Huawei surpasses Apple to rank first

The personal computer (PC) (including desktops, notebooks and workstations) market in mainland China is expected to shrink by 1% in 2024, with shipments falling by 12% in the first quarter. However, desktop shipments are expected to perform well in 2024, with an annual growth rate of 10%. In addition, Canalys expects full-year notebook computer shipments to decline by 5%.

Canalys pointed out that the recovery trajectory of China’s PC market is not consistent with global trends. Although the PC market performance is average in 2024, the market performance is expected to be stronger in 2025, with PC shipments expected to achieve 12% growth.

Canalys said that AI promotion will not only help the PC market, but will also become an important catalyst for the tablet market. Although notebook and desktop shipments fell by 13% and 11% respectively in the first quarter, the tablet market achieved 22% growth. Among them, Huawei, which surpassed Apple to rank first, continues to update its tablet product portfolio, launching the MatePad SE series of low-end products and the MatePad Pro series of high-end products. Other manufacturers have successively launched new devices and efficiency-improving AI applications to empower tablets.

In the first quarter, Huawei was followed by Apple with a market share of 27%. The gap with Huawei was smaller, but its annual growth rate was -3%. Regarding other manufacturers, Xiaomi, Honor and Lenovo ranked third to fifth, with Xiaomi having an annual growth rate of 35%. Of course, Huawei’s annual growth rate of 88% is even more dazzling.
