Detailed summary of Samsung S25 Ultra revelations!Apple is afraid of this “Android King”

[Gearbest Technology]Although it has not been long since the debut of Samsung S24 Ultra in January, the news of the release of S24 Ultra is still fresh in people’s minds. But the development work of Samsung S25 Ultra is already well underway. At present, rumors of S25 Ultra have begun to appear on the Internet. As the release time gradually approaches, there will be more and more news about the new machine.

After Samsung fully supports the Galaxy AI feature in this year's phones, the S25 series (including Ultra) is expected to continue this feature. It is reported that the Samsung S25 Ultra will make improving the camera a top priority as Samsung tries to show Apple how to make the best camera phone.

Here’s what we know so far about the Samsung S25 Ultra, along with some of our best guesses at Samsung’s plans.

Release date and price

Based on past release rhythm, it seems too early to speculate on the release time of Samsung S25 Ultra. In recent years, Samsung has gradually moved up the release dates of its Galaxy S series, which used to launch in February. This year’s S24 series release is the earliest ever. The global Galaxy Unpacked event was held on January 17 (2 a.m. on January 18, Beijing time), and the National Bank version was released on January 25.

If Samsung moves up the release date of the S25 Ultra, the launch would conflict with CES 2025, where Samsung usually focuses on showcasing its TVs and smart home products. Therefore, we speculate that Samsung will hold another Galaxy Unpacked event as early as mid-January, focusing on Samsung's new mobile phones.

Samsung raised the price of the S24 Ultra this year, setting it at $1,299. For reference, the S23 Ultra costs $1,199. This seems to rule out a price increase for the S25 Ultra, but prices for high-end phones are rising. We'll likely hear more about pricing plans by the end of 2024.

Design and screen

The S24 Ultra’s bezels just switched to titanium, and we don’t think Samsung will make the change for the S25 series. Likewise, Samsung used the same basic design with its recent Ultra, with cameras arranged vertically on the back of the phone and the lens protruding slightly. That probably won't change either. CAD renderings, likely to leak in the coming months, could prove this.

Rumors suggest that the display size of the entry-level model of Samsung's S25 series will increase to 6.36 inches, compared to 6.2 inches for the S24. The S25 Ultra's screen will be closer to 6.9 inches, which is a slight increase from the S24 Ultra's 6.8-inch display, but we're not sure how much basis there is for that claim.

Recently, mobile phone manufacturers have been trying to improve their competitiveness by increasing the maximum brightness of mobile phone displays. Samsung is not far behind. After the peak brightness of the S23 Ultra is 1,750 nits, Samsung has increased the peak brightness of the S24 Ultra to 2,600 nits. Don’t be surprised to see the S25 Ultra’s display brightness further improved.

camera

The camera is the core feature of the Ultra model, and the phone comes with a 200-megapixel main sensor and a 100-megapixel spatial zoom feature favored by Samsung. It is expected that Samsung will also make some kind of upgrade to the Ultra version of the camera next year.

Early S25 Ultra rumors suggest that the S25 Ultra's wide-angle lens will get an unspecified upgrade, while the ultra-wide-angle lens will jump from the 12-megapixel sensor on the S24 Ultra to the 50-megapixel sensor on the new phone.

Additionally, the telephoto lens on the S25 Ultra is expected to gain “variable functionality.” Not sure exactly what this means yet, but it could be that the focal length can be changed, with the end result being a smoother zoom, especially when shooting video. As for the credibility of the leak, it is worth mentioning that the leaker did correctly predict that the S24 Ultra would be upgraded to a 50-megapixel telephoto lens before the release.

Performance and battery

Given that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is used in the S24 Ultra, it is expected that the Samsung S25 Ultra will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform. (In fact, this year's Ultra version is the only S24 model to rely entirely on Qualcomm chips, as the standard S24 and S24 Plus models released outside of North America both use Exynos 2400 processors.) Qualcomm has confirmed that Snapdragon The 8 Gen 4 mobile platform will be launched in October.

Early Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 benchmarks have leaked, and while such uncensored numbers shouldn't be fully trusted, they do paint a good picture of the chipset's performance. According to leaked Geekbench results, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 matches the top scores produced by A18 Bionic-powered iPhones. (Yes, these A18 figures were leaked, too.)

There are rumors that after Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 reaches 3.4GHz, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will have a 4.3GHz main frequency core. That's a sizable jump in power, and will require Samsung and Qualcomm to figure out how to fit such a chip into a mobile device without causing it to overheat.

But there are also rumors that Qualcomm will not provide the chip. Instead, a rumor posted by @OreXda on the X claims that Galaxy S phones in 2025 will only use Exynos chips. However, @OreXda also stated that this was “just a rumor I heard…not my source.”

More credible rumors suggest that the S25 series will use a mix of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Exynos 2500 chipsets, just like the S24 series. If Samsung follows closely with the S24 series, that means the S25 Ultra may exclusively use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform, while the S25 and S25 Plus models will use Exynos chips in some cases. This is a significant difference, as S24 benchmarks show that the Exynos model of the S24 lags slightly behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered model.

As for battery life, we're not sure how Samsung included a larger battery pack than the S24 Ultra's 5000mAh battery. Since the Samsung S24 Ultra achieved a good result of 16 hours and 45 minutes in the battery test, there is no need to worry about the battery life of the S25 Ultra. But I hope the wired charging speed of this machine can be faster than the current 45W.

write at the end

While it may be too early to focus on the S25 Ultra, it's a safe bet that Samsung has put a lot of thought into its next-generation device. As the S25 Ultra's 2025 release date approaches, we'll learn more about the new phone throughout the year.
