China's personal computer market shipments fell 24% in the first quarter
Lenovo still ranks first among Chinese PC manufacturers, but shipments fell 24% in the first quarter of 2023 to 3.3 million units. Huawei performed strongly this quarter, with PC shipments increasing 34% to nearly 1 million units, ranking second. The third place, HP, saw a smaller decline in shipments, at 7%, and the manufacturer has once again reiterated its commitment to treating China as an important sales and manufacturing market. Dell's PC shipments fell the most among the top five manufacturers in China, falling by 45%, ranking fourth. ASUS ranked fifth, with shipments reaching 700,000 units.
In terms of the tablet market, driven by event promotions and various new products from manufacturers, the market performance is relatively resilient, with a year-on-year growth of 38%. Xu Ying said: “With the launch of tablet products with more diverse products and prices, the penetration rate of tablets in China continues to increase. Manufacturers are currently innovating to improve the performance of tablets in production and work, including using keyboard and stylus accessories, and equipping with applications to support work and learning. Through these initiatives, tablets have been strengthened as a pillar in the broader device ecosystem strategy, which can support manufacturers to fully seize the demand from the consumer, commercial and educational fields in the future.”
Apple leads the tablet market, with shipments more than doubling to 2.5 million units. Huawei's tablet shipments increased 23% to 1.1 million units. But as other local brands continue to launch and expand product lines, Huawei faces more severe competitive pressure. Honor and Xiaomi ranked third and fourth, with year-on-year growth rates of 66% and 13% respectively. Lenovo ranked fifth, with shipments falling by 3%. It was the only one among the top five tablet manufacturers to experience a year-on-year decline.
