Canalys: U.S. PC market expected to recover, plunged 28% in first quarter

Despite the short-term difficulties, Canalys expects the U.S. PC market to recover soon. Shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023 are expected to increase by 6% year-on-year, and in 2024 they will increase by 13% compared with 2023.

In the first quarter of 2023, Dell ranked first in desktop and notebook computer shipments in the U.S. market, with shipments of 3.801 million units, accounting for approximately 27.1% of the market; followed by HP, with shipments of 3.733 million units, accounting for approximately 26.6% of the market share; third was Lenovo, with shipments of 2.119 million units, accounting for approximately 15.1% of the market. Apple ranked fourth, with shipments of 1.715 million units and a share of 12.2%.

In terms of tablet computers, Apple's iPad performed strongly in the first quarter, with shipments reaching 5.404 million units, accounting for approximately 50% of the US tablet market. Followed by Amazon and Samsung, accounting for 18.9% and 16.3% respectively.

For reference, shipments of personal computers (desktops, laptops and workstations) in mainland China fell 24% year-on-year to 8.9 million units in the first quarter of 2023. Among them, shipments of desktop computers (including desktop workstations) fell by 28% to 2.8 million units; shipments of notebook computers (including mobile workstations) fell by 22% to 6.1 million units; shipments of tablet computers bucked the trend, with total shipments increasing by 38% year-on-year to 6.5 million units.
