[Gearbest News]In the third quarter of 2023, the personal computer (desktop, notebook and workstation) market in mainland China is further recovering. Although shipments fell 16% year-on-year, they increased 15% quarter-on-quarter to 11 million units. Canalys expects that the personal computer market (excluding tablets) in mainland China will decline by 18% in 2023, followed by a slight growth of 4% in 2024. This growth momentum is expected to be realized in the second quarter and beyond, as investments in IT by large companies in strategic industries will drive further recovery in business demand.
Canalys analyst Emma Xu said: “With the pace of China's economic recovery, the overall IT investment of large enterprises is still relatively conservative, while small and medium-sized enterprises still face many operational challenges. But IT investment in some areas, such as government sectors, as well as some cutting-edge industry companies driven by the AI wave, are showing some signs of growth. According to the latest Economic Conference of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, the primary economic focus in 2024 is shifting from only promoting domestic consumption to encouraging industrial upgrading. It is expected to be a positive factor for the technology industry and manufacturers.”
In the third quarter of 2023, the decline in desktop computers (including desktop workstations) was smaller, falling only 9% to 3.4 million units. Shipments of notebooks (including mobile workstations) fell 18% year-on-year to 7.8 million units, reflecting that terminal consumer demand remains weak. In contrast, thanks to seasonal promotions and the continued development of digital trends in education and entertainment, the tablet market maintained a promising development momentum, growing 16% year-on-year to 7.4 million units.
