[ Gearbest Technology News]On August 14, market research institution Canalys released its latest report: In the second quarter of 2024, AI PC shipments were 8.8 million units. Includes desktop and notebooks, chipsets or modules equipped with dedicated AI workloads, such as NPUs. AI PC shipments accounted for 14% of total PC shipments this quarter.
Ishan Dutt, chief analyst at Canalys, said: “The second quarter of 2024 added a huge momentum to the expansion of AI PCs. In June, Copilot+ PC equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X-series chips based on the Arm architecture was officially released. Due to short time to market and limited coverage, shipments were relatively small in the quarter, but Windows OEM promised a wide range of Snapdragon chips in its portfolio, heralding a good prospect for this category.”
As the AI PC planning of major processor suppliers gradually advances, it is expected that the supply of AI PCs and user adoption rate will significantly increase in the second half of 2024 and in the future. Canalys predicts that AI PC shipments will reach 44 million units in 2024 and are expected to reach 103 million units in 2025. ”
In terms of manufacturers, Apple’s entire Mac product line uses M-series chips with neural engines, so Apple is in the leading position in AI PC production and shipments and market share. In the Windows field, AI PC shipments increased by 127% month-on-month. As the world’s highest-shipped PC manufacturer, Lenovo has helped its AI PC account for about 6% of the total shipments of Windows PCs by launching the Yoga Slim 7x and ThinkPad T14s equipped with Snapdragon X processors. HP accounts for about 8% of the AI PC shipments of Windows PCs. With its strong commercial presence, Dell accounts for a slightly less than 7% of Windows PC shipments.
Dutt continued: “A key benefit from AI PCs for PC OEMs is that it promotes growth in its premium products. In the second quarter of 2024, Windows PC shipments of over $800 increased by 9% month-on-month, while AI PC shipments in these price segments increased by 126%.
