Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro may be released within this year equipped with M6 chip

[ Gearbest Technology News]Recently, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s first touch-screen MacBook Pro is about to be released, but this product may not completely subvert users’ traditional understanding of Mac. Gurman pointed out in the latest issue of the “Power On” newsletter that the new MacBook Pro will be positioned as a “touch-friendly device” rather than a “touch-first device.”

Gurman revealed that thanks to the “Liquid Glass” design language introduced by macOS last year, the macOS 27 system expected to be released in 2027 will further optimize the interaction logic, allowing users to seamlessly switch between touch and traditional “pointer click” modes. However, Apple's integration of touch functions appears to be quite restrained – touch will be treated as an “add-on” rather than a main feature.

“Before everyone gets too excited, it needs to be clear that the experience of the touch screen MacBook Pro will not be like that of the iPad.” Gurman emphasized, “It is still essentially the MacBook Pro that users have been familiar with for twenty years, but now there is an additional touch operation method.”

According to the description, the interactive elements of the system will dynamically adjust based on the input method. For example, when a user taps a menu bar item with their finger, the interface expands into a larger control panel optimized for touch. macOS will systematically integrate touch options and support multiple gesture operations derived from the iPad, such as pinch-to-zoom, fast scrolling, etc.

According to reports, the first touchscreen MacBook Pro may be released as early as later this year. The new model will be equipped with Apple's next-generation M6 series chips and be equipped with an OLED screen with better display effects. In terms of appearance design, the 14-inch and 16-inch facelift models are expected to usher in important changes: the traditional “bangs” at the top of the screen will be cancelled, replaced by a punch-hole camera similar to the iPhone, and the “Smart Island” UI will integrate display and interaction to accommodate the front camera module.

For those looking for a deeply integrated Mac and iPad experience, Gurman said they may have to wait a little longer. He reiterated that Apple's rumored foldable screen product – a foldable iPad – is not expected to be released until 2029. Even so, the device will be “designed from start to finish as an iPad” rather than a hybrid with macOS.
