Apple’s big move at the end of the year: multiple system updates and the arrival of next-generation CarPlay

[ Gearbest Technology News]2024 is coming to an end, but Apple still has a series of software updates and other important matters to be released. Here are some of the key Apple moves we can expect during the rest of the year.

Apple’s big move at the end of the year: multiple system updates and the arrival of next-generation CarPlay

Apple has previously announced that iOS 18.2 will be released in December. To be more precise, the update is likely to roll out on December 9th. Other updates were released at the same time, including iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, watchOS 11.2, tvOS 18.2, visionOS 2.2, and HomePod Software 18.2.

iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 introduce more Apple Intelligence features, such as Genmoji (for generating custom emojis), Image Playground (for generating images), and ChatGPT integration for Siri. In addition, all iPhone 16 models come with a new Visual Intelligence feature that provides relevant information about the things around you. For example, pointing your iPhone camera at a restaurant will display its operating hours and reviews. The Apple Intelligence feature requires an iPhone 15 Pro or any iPhone 16, an iPad with an M-series chip or an A17 Pro chip, or a Mac with an M-series chip.

For iPhone XS and newer models, iOS 18.2 also adds a new default application section in the “Settings” application, an item location sharing function in the “Find” application, and more. tvOS 18.2 adds Snoopy screensaver and ultrawide 21:9 projector support to Apple TV.

visionOS 2.2 adds an ultrawide mode to the Mac virtual display, which allows users to use the Apple Vision Pro as an external display for the Mac. Apple says this is the equivalent of using two 5K physical monitors side by side on your desktop.

The release of these updates will be followed by the next wave of betas in December, including iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, macOS Sequoia 15.3, watchOS 11.3, tvOS 18.3, visionOS 2.3, and HomePod Software 18.3. Apple’s third-point updates are typically smaller, and beta releases are paused during the holidays. These updates are expected to be released to the public in January.

If Apple can stay within 2024 as planned, the first cars equipped with next-generation CarPlay could be released before the end of the year. Two and a half years have passed since Apple first previewed the next-generation CarPlay at the 2022 WWDC Global Developers Conference, and it can be said that it has been waiting for a long time. Apple has been preparing for the next generation of CarPlay in iOS 18.2 code.
