[ Gearbest Technology News]Apple recently mislabeled the GPU core number of the M2 chip iPad Air on its official website, listing it as 10 cores instead of the actual 9 cores. Still, the performance claims Apple shared at the MacBook Air launch event and in marketing materials are accurate.
In a statement provided to the media, Apple said that the iPad Air performance details they shared were always based on a 9-core GPU. Apple said: “We are updating our official website to correct the core count of the M2 version of iPad Air. All performance claims about the M2 version of iPad Air are accurate and are based on a 9-core GPU.” Apple promotes on its official website that the performance of the M2 chip is almost 50% faster than the previous generation, and specifically states that its graphics performance is 25% faster.
Apple recently updated the technical specifications website for the M2 version of the iPad Air, stating that the device has a 9-core GPU. Previously, the website listed a 10-core GPU. This change is surprising considering that the previous generation iPad Pro had a 10-core GPU and the iPad Air version is limited to a 9-core GPU.
Other specifications of the M2 chip remain unchanged. iPad Air comes with an 8-core CPU that includes four performance cores and four efficiency cores, along with 8GB of RAM and a 16-core NPU.
Since it took Apple several days to correct the chip error on its website, some users may have purchased the iPad Air thinking it had a 10-core GPU. For those who purchased on launch day, the two-week return period has passed, but customers believe they had a good reason for requesting a return.
