Apple may launch touch version of MacBook Pro at the end of 2026, equipped with M6 chip

[ Gearbest Technology News]Recently, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed in the “Power On” newsletter that “a high-end MacBook equipped with a touch screen and an OLED display is expected to be launched before the end of 2026.” This will be the first Mac computer in Apple's history to be equipped with both a touch screen and an OLED display.

Apple may launch touch version of MacBook Pro at the end of 2026, equipped with M6 chip

This MacBook Pro update is expected to be equipped with a further M6 Pro/Max chip. This schedule is particularly aggressive considering that Apple has just released a regular refresh model equipped with M5 series chips.

In fact, this is not the first time Apple has tried to upgrade the MacBook Pro chip twice within a year. There is a precedent in history: On January 17, 2023, Apple released the MacBook Pro equipped with the M2 Pro/Max chip; only 286 days later, on October 30 of the same year, a new model equipped with the M3 Pro/Max chip was launched.

If calculated according to the same time rhythm, the new MacBook Pro equipped with M6 Pro/Max chip may be released around December 14 this year. There is indeed a precedent in Apple's history for launching products at the beginning of the year and officially launching them at the end of the year, such as the 2019 Mac Pro, the 2017 iMac Pro and the 2013 Mac Pro.

Gurman pointed out that this new Mac, which combines OLED and touch functions, will be positioned higher than the M5 Pro/Max version released this week, rather than replacing the latter. Due to the adoption of higher-cost OLED screens and touch technology, its starting price is expected to increase significantly, so it is likely to exist in the product line as a top-tier flagship model.

Gurman analyzed in the communication: “…these upcoming laptops will most likely sit on top of the existing M5 Pro/Max MacBook Pro rather than replace them. While Apple can retain the traditional 'MacBook Pro' name, the 'MacBook Ultra' naming will more clearly indicate its top position in the product line. One thing is clear: Apple is firmly moving into the higher-end market.”

So, despite just releasing a new MacBook Pro, it's not impossible for Apple to break its 286-day update record set in 2023. If this higher-end model is ready, it could debut as early as November or December this year.

Of course, plans are always subject to change, and this revolutionary product may ultimately be postponed to 2027. But for now, the market is full of expectations for this “ultimate” MacBook Pro, which combines many of Apple's cutting-edge technologies.
