【Gearbest News】According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is experimenting with larger iMacs, including models with about a 32-inch display. In his latest revelation, Gurman said these iMacs are still in the early stages of development, so he doesn't expect them to be launched until late 2024 or sometime in 2025 at the earliest.
Gurman previously said Apple was working on a larger iMac with a display larger than 30 inches, and he now specifies that the display will be roughly the same size as Apple's high-end Pro Display XDR monitor, which was announced in December 2019 with a 6K resolution and Retina-quality display and starts at $4,999.
Apple discontinued its Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro in the past few years, and has yet to launch a large-screen iMac with Apple's own silicon as a replacement. Instead, Apple offers a 27-inch Studio Display that can be connected to a Mac Studio or another Mac with Apple silicon, but it's not an all-in-one solution like the iMac.
The reason Apple is working on a larger iMac is simple: People like bigger screens. The 24-inch model Apple sells now is a compromise between the previous 21.5-inch and the 27-inch Intel iMac that was canceled last year. A larger display is also better for creative workers, who can really see the tiny details in the artwork they're creating or the images they're editing, which is crucial for them.
Currently, the 24-inch iMac is the only all-in-one computer Apple sells. The current M1 chip model was released in April 2021, and Gurman expects an updated model using the faster M3 chip to launch early next year. All current Apple M-series chips are built on TSMC's 5nm process, while the M3 chips are expected to move to a 3nm process to significantly improve performance and energy efficiency.
