[ Gearbest Technology News]For Apple’s flagship laptop, MacBook Pro, I believe many people are still unable to adapt to the notch display. Apple recently announced a new patent called “Camera Integration for Portable Electronic Devices”, which demonstrates a new way to improve the MacBook Pro camera.
Apple’s new patent abandons the previous concept of “staying thin” and focuses on providing better camera modules. According to the patent, the new camera module is no more than 3 mm thick, but will protrude from the screen part of the MacBook Pro. The position and width of the camera are the focus, and the patent drawings show that the new camera may be partially located in the screen groove, or moved to one side of the screen, or even to the back.
The patent describes an “optical assembly” attached to the MacBook Pro housing by a magnet, removably fixed to the housing and display assembly, and communication between the camera modules. For example, one camera module can protrude from the front to face the user and the other can protrude from the back to shoot.
This dual-camera system is similar to the iPhone 11’s front and rear camera simultaneous shooting function, and can play a greater role in MacBook. For example, one camera module can capture respondents, and another built-in FaceTime camera is used for interviewers.
What is even more revolutionary is the rotating design of the display. The patent mentions that users can install the camera module on the back of a MacBook Pro, then rotate the entire display to shoot, or install it on the front using the LiDAR sensor of the camera module.
This new patent provides a new direction for future MacBook Pro camera improvements, and while these concepts are still in the patent stage, it demonstrates Apple’s relentless exploration on the path of innovation.
