Apple launches its most controversial MacBook a decade ago, Cook calls it a remake

However, the 12-inch MacBook also indicates the future development direction of the Mac product line. It is Apple’s first device to be equipped with a USB-C port, a stepped battery, a butterfly keyboard and a tactile trackpad. At the same time, it is also the first MacBook that focuses on portability and efficiency. It has a Retina display on a non-Pro model, a variety of color options, and has eliminated the fan and the glowing Apple logo.

In 2016, Apple updated the 12-inch MacBook, introduced Intel Skylake Core m3, m5 and m7 processors, improving battery life, equipped with faster PCIe storage, and adding rose gold color options. In 2017, it introduced Intel Kaby Lake Core m3, i5 and i7 processors and upgraded to the second-generation butterfly keyboard, with a slightly improved keyboard reliability.

However, with the redesign and launch of the 2019 MacBook Air, the 12-inch MacBook is officially discontinued. Its features were replaced by the 2018 MacBook Air, which inherited its design language but added a second USB-C port, a fan for active cooling, and a larger display.
