[Gearbest News]Apple is reportedly ready to launch a series of Mac computers equipped with M3 chips in the fall. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicted in the latest issue of the PowerOn newsletter that two new MacBooks and a desktop computer equipped with Apple's next-generation M3 processor may be available in October 2023.
These include the rumored new 13-inch MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. The more interesting new addition to Apple's Mac portfolio is the much-anticipated new iMac. However, it's not clear whether this is just a processor upgrade for the 2021 24-inch M1 iMac or a new machine entirely.
There are rumors that Apple is developing a 27-inch iMac Pro, but there is no news on whether the machine will be released in 2023. Recently, Bloomberg also reported that a larger 32-inch iMac is in development, but again there is no clear release timeline. Given Apple's practice of using similar designs for at least several generations of products, the company may continue to use the same colorful aesthetics and sharp lines we saw on the M1 iMac. The same applies to the upcoming M3 laptops, especially the MacBook Air, which already received a 15-inch makeover earlier this year.
According to reports, the M3 chip will bring some major improvements to computing and graphics processing. It is rumored to be manufactured on TSMC's 3nm process node, which means it will offer significant processing and efficiency improvements over the 5nm-based M2 series processors. The exact core details about the M3's configuration are unclear, but Apple has reportedly been testing a more powerful M3 Pro version for some time. The M3 Pro version is said to contain 12 CPU cores (6 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores), while there are 10 CPU cores on the M2 Pro processor and 8 CPU cores on the M1 Pro chip.
Graphics capabilities are also said to be improved. The M3 Pro will reportedly increase to 18 graphics cores, two more than the M2 Pro and four more GPU cores than the M1 Pro. It will be used in pricier and more powerful Macs, but is not expected to be available until 2024. Apple upgraded its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops with upgraded M2 series chips earlier this year. In June, the company also launched updated Mac Studio and Mac Pro equipped with powerful M2 Ultra chips. Therefore, these four models should not see any iterative upgrades within a year.
