Threat? Intel CEO: If we lose Chinese orders, we won't build chip factories in the U.S.

[Gearbest News]Recently, Gearbest noticed that according to relevant media reports, an insider revealed that Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said that if Intel's business in China is further restricted, it may jeopardize the development of the domestic chip manufacturing industry in the United States. Gelsinger warned that without orders from Chinese customers, the necessity for Intel to build a chip factory in Ohio, the United States, would be greatly reduced.

Previously, Gearbest noticed that Intel seemed to have started the “investment maniac” mode. In June 2023, they announced that they would spend 30 billion euros (about 235 billion yuan) to build two chip manufacturing plants in Magdeburg, Germany. At present, Germany has agreed to give Intel a subsidy of nearly 10 billion euros, which is higher than the 6.8 billion euros originally planned to provide Intel. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said that in order to “realize the vision of building a vibrant and sustainable cutting-edge semiconductor industry in Germany and the European Union”, Germany and the state of Saxony-Anhalt, where Magdeburg is located, have made efforts.

In addition to Germany, Intel has invested $4.6 billion in Poland and $25 billion in Israel to build chip factories. The Polish factory is located near Wroclaw, Poland, and is expected to create 2,000 jobs; the Israeli factory is located in Kilitgat and is expected to be officially put into production in 2027, creating thousands of jobs for the local area.

Currently, Intel is about to release its second quarter financial report on Friday this week. According to previous expectations, their second quarter financial report may decline year-on-year but rise quarter-on-quarter. Intel's forecast is a single quarter revenue of US$11.5 billion to US$12.5 billion, while in the first quarter of this year, Intel's revenue was US$11.7 billion and in the second quarter of last year it was US$15.3 billion.
