So far, oxides have only been used in some of the switching TFTs in Apple Watch LTPO OLEDs, but starting with new products, oxides will also be used to drive TFTs. By using new LTPO OLEDs, Apple can further reduce the power consumption of the watch. In addition, the industry is paying attention to whether Apple will apply the new LTPO OLED with enhanced oxide effect to other products such as iPhone.

Industry insiders say that Apple is planning to apply LTPO TFT technology to the Apple Watch 10 series of OLEDs scheduled to be released in the second half of this year. This LTPO TFT consists of 7 to 8 TFTs and uses the method of applying oxide to the driving TFT and part of the switching TFT. The LTPO TFTs used in the Apple Watch so far have used oxides in only two switching TFTs, while LTPS is used for the remaining switching TFTs and driving TFTs. Simply put, in the new LTPO OLED, the role of oxides has been enhanced.
Korean media said that the reason why the industry is paying attention to the LTPO TFT of Apple Watch OLED is because the new LTPO OLED may be extended to other Apple products such as iPhones when the effect of oxides is enhanced. It is reported that, like its predecessor, the iPhone 16 series, which will be released in the second half of this year, will only use LTPO TFT on the two top models (Pro and Pro Max). Next year, all four models of the iPhone 17 series are planned to use LTPO OLED.
LG Display is expected to mainly produce Apple Watch 10 series OLEDs. Japan's JDI is also an OLED supplier for Apple Watch, but LG Display is expected to be the first to develop new LTPO OLEDs. In addition, Samsung Display is involved in the Apple Watch 11 series OLED development project, and the product is expected to be released next year.
