[ Gearbest Technology News]On May 22, according to semiconductor industry news, after Samsung Electronics launched the mass production of the eighth-generation V-NAND (V8) at the end of March, it has begun the conversion of the ninth-generation V-NAND (V9) production line at the Xi'an factory in China, and the construction of clean rooms has entered the preparation stage.
It is reported that Samsung Electronics is accelerating the conversion of its Xi'an factory into a high-stack V-NAND production line. After completing the conversion investment from 128-layer V6 to 236-layer V8, the factory entered the mass production stage of V8 on March 30. Industry analysts believe that the proportion of V6 products in the factory's production capacity has basically been reduced or is entering the final stage.
Samsung Electronics Xi'an Factory
In order to promote NAND technology conversion, Samsung Electronics continues to expand its investment scale in China. According to data from the Shanghai Semiconductor Materials Innovation Alliance (ICMIC), Samsung Electronics' investment in the Xi'an factory in 2025 is expected to be approximately US$304 million (approximately 465.4 billion won), an increase of approximately 67.5% from the previous year.
Samsung Electronics plans to complete investment in 286-layer V9 within this year and start preparations for mass production. Currently, the clean room project to build the V9 production line is under preparation. It is expected that the relevant facilities will be completed and the V9 production line will be officially launched in 2027. By then, the V8 and V9 production lines will operate in coexistence for a period of time.
Samsung Electronics’ ninth generation V-NAND
GearbestTechnology learned that the Xi'an factory is the core base of Samsung Electronics' global NAND production, accounting for approximately 40% of its total global NAND production capacity. It is estimated that the factory will achieve sales of approximately 8.64 trillion won and net profit of approximately 1.11 trillion won in 2025.
