[Gearbest News]On June 2, Canalys announced personal computer shipments. In the first quarter, the Indian personal computer market (including desktops, laptops and tablets) grew by 48%, with shipments reaching 5.8 million units. In the past six quarters, the Indian market has grown an average of 44%, with shipments exceeding the 5 million mark for three consecutive quarters. The market now accounts for 5% of global PC shipments, up from just 3% two years ago.
Among PC shipments, laptops shipped the most, reaching 3.4 million units, a year-on-year increase of 36%; desktop shipments exceeded 880,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 64%; as government orders surged again after a two-year hiatus, tablet shipments grew the fastest among all PC categories, reaching 1.6 million units, a year-on-year increase of 69%. Canalys research analyst Jash Shah believes that 18% of all PCs sold in India are manufactured locally, which means that India's impact from China's black swan incident is weakening and its consumer demand for PCs is also increasing.
HP ranked first in the Indian market in terms of shipments in the first quarter, with a market share of 25%, and PC shipments increased by 42% to 1.5 million units; Lenovo ranked second overall, with a market share of 19%, and PC shipments reached 1.1 million units, a year-on-year increase of 29%, breaking the 1 million mark for three consecutive quarters; Acer's shipments exceeded the 600,000 mark for the first time, with a market share of 11%, replacing Dell in fourth place.
