Gurman predicts: new iPad mini and entry-level iPad will be launched by the end of this year

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter that new iPad mini and entry-level iPad models could be released as early as late 2024.

“The company is also developing new versions of the entry-level iPad and iPad mini, but those won't launch before the end of this year at the earliest,” he said. “Starting in 2022, the new lower-end iPads may end up being cost-reduced versions of the 10th-generation models, while the iPad mini updates will only include processor upgrades.”

The current sixth-generation iPad mini was released in September 2021, two and a half years ago. The sixth-generation iPad mini is equipped with the A15 Bionic chip. Gurman expects that the next new mini version will use an updated chip to improve performance, but may not change much otherwise. Other features rumored by other sources include camera upgrades and a fix for “jelly scroll” display behavior.

The entry-level iPad was last updated in October 2022. The 11th-generation iPad may start at a lower price than the 10th-generation iPad, which could pave the way for Apple to discontinue the ninth-generation iPad with Lightning port.
