Samsung and LG dominate the global market share of gaming monitors exceeds one-third

Fortune Business Insights predicts that by 2032, the global e-sports market size will increase from US$1.7 billion in 2023 to US$9.3 billion. Driven by the e-sports boom, the e-sports display market will also grow rapidly. According to Future Market Insights, the global e-sports display market is expected to nearly double to $18.4 billion by 2033 from $9.8 billion in 2023.

Currently, two Korean companies, Samsung and LG, dominate the high-end gaming monitor market, while Taiwan’s Asus and the United States’ Dell dominate the mid-range and entry-level markets. According to IDC data, in the first quarter of this year, Samsung and LG’s share of global gaming monitors was 20.6% and 14.1% respectively, with a total share of more than one-third.

Samsung and LG reportedly launched OLED gaming monitors earlier this year to improve market competitiveness. Among them, Samsung’s latest gaming monitor, Odyssey OLED series, sold more than 20,000 units in one month after it was launched last month. Ultragear, launched by LG in April, is designated as the official gaming monitor brand for the 2024 Esports World Cup (EWC). Asus and Philips are following the footsteps of leading manufacturers and have also launched OLED gaming monitors.

Industry observers say the competition among display manufacturers for the gaming monitor market is expected to intensify even further ahead of the first global Olympic esports competition next year.
