[ Gearbest Technology News]Chip manufacturing giant Intel has announced its leading product based on Intel’s 18A manufacturing process. This will be used to manufacture next-generation computer chips: Panther Lake (AI PC client processor) and Clearwater Forest (server processor). Intel said the chips have been manufactured and have started and enhanced the operating system. The company achieved this goal less than two quarters after the filming.
Panther Lake and Clearwater Forest processors indicate the health of the Intel 18A. It is said to be the company’s leading process technology and is expected to return Intel to the process leadership by 2025. Intel’s two products are expected to start production in 2025, but no specific date has been announced yet. The company also announced that its first external customer is expected to complete slitting on Intel 18A in the first half of next year.
Intel 18A node integrates RibbonFET fully-surround gate (GAA) transistor and PowerVia back-powered technology. Intel said these milestones indicate that the company’s foundry is the first to successfully implement RibbonFET fully-surround gate transistors and PowerVia back-side power supply technology for foundry customers.
RibbonFETs can strictly control the current in the transistor channel, further reducing chip component volume while reducing leakage, a factor that becomes critical as chip density increases. PowerVia optimizes signal routing by separating power delivery from the front of the wafer. This reduces resistance and improves power efficiency.
Panther Lake meets DDR memory performance goals. On the other hand, in 2025, Clearwater Forest, the prototype of future CPUs and AI chips, will mark the industry’s first mass-produced high-performance solution, which combines RibbonFET, PowerVia and Fveros Direct 3D to achieve higher density and power processing capabilities. Clearwater Forest is also a leading product in Intel’s 3-T basic chip technology.
The company said that by leveraging the system foundry approach of Intel foundry, the two products are expected to achieve significant improvements in performance per watt, transistor density and cell utilization.
Intel’s EDA and IP partners are updating their tools and design processes by obtaining Intel 18A PDK 1.0. This will enable external foundry customers to start their Intel 18A chip design.
