Specifically, in the first quarter of this year, Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor sales were US$14.873 billion, a year-on-year increase of 78.8%, ranking first among global semiconductor manufacturers. Intel’s semiconductor sales were $12.139 billion, SK Hynix’s semiconductor sales were $9.074 billion, and Micron’s $5.824 billion were the last. Among them, SK Hynix’s year-on-year growth rate was as high as 144.3%, the highest among the top ten manufacturers.

Among the top three chip manufacturers in sales, two are Korean companies, showing the strong competitiveness of Korean companies in the memory chip field. IDC analysis pointed out that the demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) that is priced four or five times higher than existing chips has increased significantly, driving strong growth in the overall memory chip market.

At present, the main products in the HBM market are the fourth generation high-bandwidth memory “HBM3” and the fifth generation high-bandwidth memory “HBM3E”. SK Hynix will supply 8-layer HBM3E chips to Nvidia for the first time since March this year, and will provide customers with 12-layer HBM3E chips from the fourth quarter. Samsung Electronics’ 8-layer and 12-layer HBM3E chips are under Nvidia’s test.
