Analyst: Apple Pro Display XDR 2 will use quantum dot display technology

This week, Ross Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), an authoritative analysis organization in the display industry, released a prediction. He believes that Apple’s next-generation Apple Pro Display XDR 2 will adopt the latest model Same quantum dot display technology as MacBook Pro.

It’s currently impossible to confirm the specific characteristics of the Pro Display XDR 2 or verify Young’s prediction. However, his extensive background in the display industry and accurate predictions of Apple’s future products make his views highly credible. For instance, he accurately predicted the iPhone 16 Pro would feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screens.

Young noted that compared to the KSF phosphor film in the current Pro Display XDR and early MacBook Pro models, the new quantum dot display film offers better color gamut support and improved motion performance. As a result, the Apple Pro Display XDR 2 is expected to deliver significant gains in color accuracy and response time.

Apple released the Pro Display XDR in 2019 alongside the new Mac Pro. Since then, the high-end 32-inch external monitor hasn’t received any hardware updates.

The monitor features an LCD panel with an LED backlight, 6K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits. It also includes one Thunderbolt 3 port and three USB-C ports. In the US market, the monitor starts at US$4,999, with the optional Pro Stand priced at an additional US$999.

In 2022, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is working on an upgraded Pro Display XDR. The new version will include a self-developed Apple chip, a feature missing in the current model. The Studio Display uses the A13 Bionic chip, which supports features like automatic composition for the Center Stage camera, spatial audio, and Siri voice commands. Users expect the new monitors to include built-in cameras, speakers, and higher refresh rates. For more information on the latest tech trends, visit GearBest’s blog.
