Apple plans to introduce an 8.4-inch hybrid OLED display for the iPad mini in 2026. The display will use a single-layer RGB architecture, replacing the double-layer tandem technology found in the iPad Pro. It will also feature an LTPS TFT backplane. Compared to current LCD displays, the new screen will offer better brightness, contrast, and color performance.
In the same year, the MacBook Pro series will switch to hybrid dual-layer OLED screens with oxide TFT backplanes. This upgrade improves screen performance and brings minor size adjustments. The 14-inch and 16-inch versions will expand to 14.3 inches and 16.3 inches, respectively, providing users with a wider visual experience.
By 2027, Apple will equip the iPad Air with 11-inch and 13-inch hybrid OLED screens. These displays will also use single-layer RGB and LTPS technology, narrowing the display gap with the iPad Pro series.
2028 will mark the peak of Apple’s screen technology upgrades. The iPad Pro will continue using 11-inch and 13-inch hybrid dual-layer OLED screens. These screens will introduce LTPO TFT backplanes and a polarizer-free design, improving performance and possibly leading to a thinner and lighter design. Additionally, the MacBook Air will see its screen size increase to 13.8 inches and 15.5 inches. It will also use LTPO or oxide TFT backplanes and incorporate TSP on TFE (touch sensor panel on thin film package) technology.
The most exciting development is that Apple may launch a foldable device in 2028. This device will feature an 18.8-inch hybrid dual-layer OLED screen, LTPO TFT backplane, and a polarizer-free design, showcasing Apple’s latest advancements in foldable screen technology.
