[Mobile China]Technology will never stand still, which means there will always be new technology products emerging.
There will be a lot to look forward to in the technology field in 2024. Nintendo and Lenovo may launch new gaming devices, some classic smartphones may continue to get iterative updates, such as the iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S24, and there may even be some innovative technologies that may change how people interact with laptops and TVs.
Here are 10 tech products or technologies we’re looking forward to launching in 2024.
iPhone 16
After the first iPhone was launched in 2007, it not only achieved great success, but also had an impact on the industry. Apple has gained more than 15% of the flagship phone market share, and millions of people eagerly await the release of the latest iPhone every year. The new iPhone will be on shelves before this winter. The iPhone 16 series will be launched at the end of 2024, and there are already many rumors about this series on the Internet.
There are rumors that a larger version of the iPhone is likely to be launched soon and will also introduce under-screen Face ID. The iPhone 16 series may also feature solid-state buttons for controlling volume, power, and more.
Another rumor that may make Apple fans give up buying the iPhone 15 series and wait for next year's update is the possibility of an iPhone 16 Ultra. This version will be the most expensive product, with features not found in other models. This could include a larger screen, more powerful hardware, and a design without any charging ports. All these features make the iPhone 16 series exciting.
PHOLED TV
Over the past decade or so, televisions have made significant advances utilizing new technologies. 4K displays are becoming commonplace, showing content to viewers at a stunning 3840×2160 pixel resolution. However, the relatively slow adoption of 8K TVs over the past two years suggests consumers want to see other exciting things in the TV space.
OLED TVs are now the first choice for many people, and as OLED becomes more popular, the technology may see a major upgrade in 2024. In fact, there are signs that major brands such as LG and Samsung are developing PHOLED TVs, and other companies may follow suit. PHOLED, which stands for “phosphorescent organic light-emitting diode,” is a new way of making TVs that replaces the common fluorescent sub-pixels with phosphorescent sub-pixels. TVs can be made more efficient, consume less energy, and be brighter and more vivid.
Thinner, faster compact laptops
Laptops are one of the main ways people work, allowing them to work from the comfort of their homes. In 2024, laptops will be smaller and faster than ever.
All thanks to new memory developed by Dell. Most laptops use SO-DIMMs for memory, but Dell has now developed Compressed Add-on Memory Modules (CAMMs) as an alternative. With approval from trade standards body JEDEC, CAMM is expected to become more widely available in the coming year, which could be a very good thing for consumers.
With SO-DIMM memory potentially reaching a ceiling in terms of speed, CAMM can offer even higher speeds due to its design changes. At the same time, CAMM memory also takes up less space, which helps create more compact laptops because the system does not need to be stacked to work. There are already some CAMM laptops available on the market today, but the technology may become more widely available in 2024.
Nintendo's new game console
No matter what you think of the Nintendo Switch, there's no denying that it's been a huge success for the Japanese company. It first hit store shelves in 2017 and now has a number of different models for gamers to choose from, and has become the third best-selling console of all time, with over 125 million units sold. However, it's no match for the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S in terms of raw performance, and that console will be seven years old by 2024, so next year seems like the perfect time for Nintendo to release a new console.
In fact, there are some key signs that a Switch successor could arrive in 2024. Sources told VGC, for example, that development kits for the new consoles have already been sent to some studios — though the release is likely to be closer to the end of the year than the beginning of the year, giving companies enough time to produce enough of the console to meet demand.
As usual, Nintendo is tight-lipped about its next hardware release. We don't know much about the console at the moment, but it's likely that Nintendo will retain the multi-modal concept so that it can be played on a TV or in handheld mode. Other reports indicate that the system will feature a liquid crystal (LCD) display and continue to use cartridges for gaming.
Samsung Galaxy S24
Apple's main competitor in the fierce mobile phone market is Samsung, especially its high-end S series. According to past rules, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will be released in early 2024 (January or February).
Like its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 may be available in basic, Plus and Ultra versions. Rumor has it that the Galaxy S24’s screen size and camera design will remain unchanged. There are also reports that the new phone will be equipped with a larger battery, which means longer battery life and longer charging time. The Ultra version may also feature a brighter screen than before, with up to 2,800 nits of brightness.
Cheaper Meta VR headsets
Virtual reality (VR) technology is growing in popularity, with brands such as Meta, PlayStation, Valve and HTC all launching VR headsets with varying degrees of success. The technology is impressive and will only continue to improve over time, but the cost factor is prohibitive, meaning many people still don't have access to a proper VR experience. Even the cheapest VR headsets cost thousands of dollars, and that doesn’t include the cost of the additional software and other hardware required to run the device.
However, by 2024, the situation may change. Facebook parent company Meta has a big strategy for its virtual reality efforts, and it hopes to release a cheaper VR headset in 2024. The device, codenamed Ventura, is expected to launch in 2024 at a more competitive price.
Meta’s VP of VR Mark Rabki has clear goals for this VR headset. “The goal of this headset is very simple – to have the greatest impact at the most attractive price in the VR consumer market,” he told employees.
Apple Watch X
Apple Watch is one of the leaders in smartwatches, with more than 100 million units sold since its launch in 2015. The Apple Watch Series 9, which will be released this year, may not be a “huge leap forward,” but the situation with the Apple Watch X, which will be unveiled in 2024, is different.
The new model will feature a major overhaul compared to Apple's current smartwatches, and will likely feature multiple upgrades. These include microLED screens – which in addition to being lighter and thinner, can also provide brighter and more vivid screens. The X Series will even come with a blood pressure monitor for the first time. For those who want to upgrade their existing Apple Watch or buy an Apple Watch for the first time, skipping the Series 9 and waiting directly for the Apple Watch X may be the best course of action.
Always Home Cam(A drone that is always onlineCourtyard camera)
The smart home revolution is already in full swing. A variety of home devices now offer additional functionality beyond their primary purpose and are interconnected so that users can control them from anywhere in the world. Smart doorbell startup Ring has launched a video-enabled smart doorbell. These products are now available from a number of vendors, and users can see who is at the door and even talk to them via a two-way video system. The company also plans to launch a new device called Always Home Cam in 2024.
For $250, customers can get an autonomous drone that acts as a security system for their home. The device uses LiDAR sensors to map your home, then it can fly along a set path to observe indoor conditions. Drone cameras allow users to see live feeds of different rooms from a distance, which can help users see if they've missed something. Ring claims it works best with its own alarm system to create a safe home and protect against potential threats.
This drone camera debuted in 2021 and is scheduled to launch the same year. However, it still hasn't hit the shelves, and considering it's been delayed multiple times, a 2024 launch seems like the most likely option.
Wireless high-resolution UWB headphones
Wireless headphones have become all the rage in the past few years. They eliminate the tangle of wires and allow users to move freely, providing greater freedom. Wireless headphones may take more of a dominant role in the future.
The only problem with Bluetooth headphones is that they generally don't offer the same audio quality as wired headphones. However, this may change significantly in 2024 with the launch of ultra-wideband headphones. By utilizing UWB technology (a carrier-less communication technology) instead of Bluetooth, the headphones can deliver higher-resolution, lossless sound quality at up to 24-bit/192kHz.
UWB certainly has some drawbacks, such as limited connection range, but it also uses far less energy and could mean headphones last much longer than they currently do.
PSBpeaker is working with mMQA and Sonical to release the first UWB speaker in the first quarter of 2024, and many other audio products may be launched in the coming months.
Lenovo Legion Go
The popularity of the Nintendo Switch is evidence of the huge demand for portable handheld gaming devices. In fact, the system's success has spurred other companies to launch other similar devices, such as Valve's Steam Deck. In 2024, with the advent of many new portable PC gaming terminals, players may have more choices in playing games, the most exciting of which is Lenovo’s Legion Go.
In September this year, Lenovo Legion Go handheld console was released at the IFA 2023 exhibition, priced at 799 euros, approximately RMB 6,260. The Legion Go gaming handheld console looks similar to the Steam Deck and Rog Ally. It is equipped with an 8.8-inch QHD+16:10 PureSight gaming display with 500nits brightness, 97% DCI-P3 color gamut, 144Hz variable refresh rate, and 10-point touch. Compared with Steam Deck and other display quality, the display quality has been significantly improved.
Lenovo Legion Go features a 49.2Wh battery for longer gaming sessions on the go. In addition to up to a 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD, the Legion Go features a micro-SD slot that supports up to 2TB of additional storage to accommodate more games. In terms of performance, it is reported that this handheld machine is equipped with AMD's Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, equipped with a high-performance cooling system and Thunderbolt port, equipped with a MicroSD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone port.
Lenovo Legion Go is expected to go on sale in November 2023 and may be launched in China in 2024.
